Light Iced Tea (no artificial sweeteners)

I like iced tea with just a little bit of sugar to take the edge off the bitterness. The only way to get this is by brewing it myself, and I’m usually far too lazy to do that. I had sent the folks at Tetley an email a year ago telling them that it would be nice to have an unsweetened iced tea mix, where consumers would be free to add their own sweeteners (e.g. honey). They politely told me to shut up, but they did send me some nice recipes for home-brewed iced tea. :)

Anyway, it turns out that Nestle has taken a step in the right direction by releasing a truly LIGHT iced tea mix! Unlike other such mixes, this one isn’t sweetened with dubious artificial sweeteners. Instead, it simply has half the sugar of the regular mix. I bought it and tried it, and it’s great! Now I can mix up a glass of iced tea where the tea flavour is strong enough without the whole thing being far too sweet.

Could this indicate a consumer trend away from the sugar-loaded products that line our supermarket shelves? I hope so!
